Rest can feel unfamiliar when we have learned to measure our worth by how much we carry. Even a quiet afternoon may stir up the thought that we should be doing more. Grace invites us to notice that thought without obeying it.
A pause gives us a chance to hear what urgency has covered up. We may be tired, grieving, or simply in need of ordinary delight. Naming the need does not make us weak. It helps us care for the life we have actually been given.
Rest is rarely a switch we flip. We can begin with a slower breath, a walk without an errand, or ten minutes with the phone set aside. Small moments teach the body that stillness can be safe.
When we return to our responsibilities, we may find that rest has not taken anything from us. It has given us room to respond with greater patience. Healing can grow in that room.
